Poems for America
By
Grace Tolson
An Eagle's Tear
Do eagles cry? Yes they really do,
for all who died, and those who also
cried, at the pain when terror came to
change the whole wide world forever.
But terror, you will never defeat us,
the wide, wide world knows that, if
you dare to harm our land, America,
expect that America will fight back.
For all the people around the world,
no matter where they might live, if
wrong is there, America will come
and always make things right again.
The fools, they thought America,
would fall and not rise again, now
they know, though we may weep,
America will always fight to the end.
The whole world looks to America,
to hold aloft the light, the torch that
guides the way to peace and hope,
the freedom that is every one's right.
Yes, the eagle cried that day for us.
and we shed many bitter, bitter tears,
but evil, you cannot ever defeat us,
America always stands, freedom and right.
America will always win, never ever,
doubt that, our light will always shine,
and like the eagle, we will soar above,
bring to all the world, our shining light.

FOUR SHINING PLANES
Four shining planes in the sky,
were taken captive that day,
and used to kill our loved ones,
both on board and on the ground.
Two of them hit the Twin Towers,
another The Pentagon, but one
of those planes didn't end where
it was going, America hit back.
The people on that fourth plane,
fought to save lives they didn't
know, and showed the world,
the courage of Americans.
I find it sad that they had to die,
yet their courage saved other
lives, and the world will always
know, good will win in the end.

THE TWIN TOWERS
You stood so tall as you reached for the stars on high,
the beacon of your lights, shone bright over this great
city, the very stars themselves were dimmed, by your
light, we grieve that you no longer, shine in the night.
With your Twin Towers, you stood guard over New York,
you were so much a part of our skyline, day and night,
even when we didn't look, we knew you were there,
I still find it hard to believe you no longer stand there.
No one who worked to build your Towers so high,
could ever have dreamed of the way you would die.
Die you did, and many of us too, we died with you,
some were found, many not, you are now their tomb.
Long will we remember you, and those we lost that
day, our tears may have dried, the pain is still there,
our hearts are with you and the loved ones we lost,
both of you and them, many tales will history tell.

A MESSAGE FOR THE BRAVE
We somehow took it all for granted,
this dangerous job you all do for us,
since 9/11, we won't ever do that
again, too many of you died that day.
Police, Firemen on that battlefield,
you searched for the living, and
carried away the dead, your own,
and our own loved ones.
The world may not know your names,
but all salute you, heroes that you
are, we wish we could reach the sky,
and write your names with stars.
But even the stars in heaven, could
never do you justice, for all that you
have done, for you lifted up the fallen
and tried to bring them home.

For America after 9/11
Almost a year, it seems so long
But days slip by so very slowly,
Even now I don't really believe,
You won't come home again.
9/11, the world remembers, yet,
Can they understand the pain,
The empty ache always within,
Cause you won't come home again.
Though years may pass, the hurt
Won't go, instead it grows, the
Pain we face down all the years,
Cause you won't come home again.
The children never knowing why,
Mom or Dad were swept away,
How can we explain to the young ones,
That you won't come home again?
That evil wrought that fateful day,
We cannot understand, such blind
And cruel anger, would mean, to us,
That you would not come home again.
We'll do our best for the children,
We'll see that they remember you,
In spite of pain, we'll tell them why,
You won't come home again.

GOD BLESS THE USA
In New York City lies hallowed ground,
where so many we loved were cut down.
Near three thousand died there that day,
we won't forget, May God Bless the USA.
As we watched in terror, as death came,
the attack was meant to kill and maim.
Yet across the world, people would say,
we won't forget, may God Bless the USA.
Death was to strike the Pentagon as well,
that death that came here, straight from hell,
to increase the number who died that day,
we won't forget, may God Bless the USA.
But one plane crashed in an empty field,
brave passengers aboard refused to yeild,
our loss, yet was heaven's gain that day,
we won't forget, may God Bless the USA.
The world goes on, but as years go by,
we will always remember you that died,
at the the hands of evil strangers that day,
we won't forget, may God Bless the USA.
You and your evil that brought us tears,
you have failed to make us live with fear,
you can't win, we and the world still say,
we won't forget, God Bless the USA.

THAT BLACK SEPTEMBER DAY
The world remembers that black September day,
the world will always remember come what may,
for now we know there is nowhere safe on earth,
because of the evil to which Bin Laden gave birth.
People everywhere were changed by that attack,
sadly the people of the this world cannot go back,
to the innocence we had before that cruel attack,
we thought we were safe, terror was far, far away,
we found out differntly that black September day.
We find it hard to understand such evil and hate,
but we will learn from this, we say its not too late,
we will grow stronger from what came that day,
its a bitter lesson that at times evil will hold sway.
But thanks be to God, evil won't win in the end,
America and all the world will never, ever bend,
no matter what dreadful evil the devil may send,
to wreak destruction, to destroy what they may,
as they did on that most black September day.
