Cat Poems

The Tabby Cat's Fight.

In the grip of black depression, in that anteroom of hell,
where I'd fallen, broken lost alone unwell. Where I'd been
left to wander, to try to find the light, where almost I had
given up, lost my will to fight. I didn't think I could go on,
no one would really care, or understand the anguish the hurt
the pain the fear, I thought tomorrow must not come, to bring
its share of pain, the rivers depths would take me in and end
all hurt and tears. I stumbled down toward its banks to end this
dreadful night and then I saw her standing there, two kittens
by her side, this tabby ragamuffin, more kitten herself than
cat, standing up to a dog ten times her size and not a bit
fazed by that. Quite certain was she that she would win, this
tiny scrap of bristling fur she spat her fury at the dog and
showed no sign of fear. All slashing claws and snarling teeth
her paw streaks out and green grass turns blood red.. The dog
leaps yelping in the air turns and runs away. She watches for
a moment then the little cat calls her kittens and walks out
of my sight. The courage of this mother cat, gave me the courage
I had lacked, I knew I'd see another day, I knew somehow I'd
find my way. How much I owe that tabby cat.

I Said To The Ginger Cat

I said to the ginger cat, "please I need the chair."
He said, "I'm not moving, I'm much too comfy here."
I said to the ginger cat," Who do you think you are?"
he answered me, "I don't have to think. I know that I'm a star."
I said to the ginger cat, "Could you please be a little nice.
He said, "Give me one reason I should treat you nicer than mice.
I said to the ginger cat, "I'm the one who gives you food."
He said, "So? I only eat if I'm in the mood."
I said to the ginger cat, "Don't you love me even a bit."
"Oh I guess so, "he said, "Though I think you're a bit of a twit."
I said to the ginger cat, "I love you I truly, truly do."
"Oh well," he said. I guess even I can see that's true"
I said to the ginger cat, "Please cuddle up to me," "alright," he said,
"If you insist, but I hope you don't have fleas.

Lament For A Stray

So many cats, there are so many,
Oh look here comes one more,
My what a beauty this one is,
With his coat of silver tabby fur.
He's very scared and cowers,
Yet hunger drove him here,
His plate is given and
He eats despite his fear.

Frightened and still cowering,
Yet he longs so much for love,
He wants hands to pat him,
He's now as gentle as a dove.
I'm lucky to be the one
Who gets to hug this little cat,
Though he's not quite tame yet,
He sleeps on my front door mat.

He no longer eats with the strays
Soon he'll come inside the house,
He's still to scared to do it
My silver tabby mouse.
And then our dreams all fell apart,
When a car ran him down,
In a deliberate act of cruelty,
I still see him spinning round.
But he's still in my heart
My lovely Silverboy.

Frank's Call To Arms

I think said Frank the Persian,
It's time we took a hand.
Humans have made such a mess
In each and every land.

I'm sure we could do better,
If we take hold of the reins
Humans are so very dumb,
Cat's have far more brains.

So listen all my feline cousins
Of whatever kind you may be
Raise paws above your heads
Join the revolution with me.
