Jelly is  about 18 months and is one of  My Feral Cat Project kitties. She
was spayed June 2000 and released. She avoided me until August and
then I would see her in my front landscape bed. I would  give her
a can of cat food as a extra treat . She would eat ,  leave and  would
return the next day. She quickly learned that if she let me see her, I 'd
give her a can of cat food. I always have dry food out for my feral cats.
Jelly started staying at my house and when I would come out there she
was. This activity started late September 2000 . Late October 2000
she was walking into my garage and hanging around . I knew that
I wanted  her to have a home with me . Halloween night as I was
giving candy to the kids trick or treating, Jelly was sitting in my
landscape bed  watching the children. Jelly's actions that night had
me believe she was ready to join the Smurgles Gang.

I received a call from my friend that a woman had dumped a
a kitten in the rocks on my street. My home is on the water
and there is a seawall and large rocks on the shoreline. Visit
Angie's Page to read about what happened. After a long night
and unsuccessful  rescue of the kitten. I returned home and was
sitting in my garage reflecting on events of the night, when Jelly
come running into the garage and went underneath my car.
I continued to sit there for about 10 minutes and then said to
Jelly, I can't sit here all night. I got up and was expecting that she
would run out of the garage. She did not leave so I decided to close
garage door, thinking as soon as she heard the door closing
she would leave. She had plenty of time to do that before the door.
closed. She made no attempt to leave and that was the sign she
was ready to move into the house.

The next morning Jelly went to see my Vet and received  a  check-up
testing for FELV / FIV , DRC  Vaccination. Revolution treatment
for ear mites, fleas and worms. She is very feral and will require
a lot of time to settle in. She is safe and warm and will adjust with time.
The Smurgles Gang welcomes Jelly as a new member.

Jelly

I've always walked a very lonely life
With the other stray cats there but,
No one friends only a lot of strife,
Fighting for food, not enough to share,
Always hungry, always cold, do you,
Think this life I live is really fair?
I know I'm quite a pretty little tabby cat,
Saw my face reflected in a big puddle,
I think I deserve a life better than this,
Where everything is a mixed up muddle
With no place I can call my own home.
But a lady comes now and brings us food,
She has cats that live with her in her house,
Wonder if she'd to add me to her brood,
I'll wait in the garage and see what happens.
Seems I really do have a home where I live,
But the other cats are cross and I'm scared,
So I hiss and I spit and pretend I don't care,
But I do dear Mom, I'll just go to bed,
I want to stay with you, but it'll take time
Till I can feel happy when inside a house.

THE CAT STREETWALKER

Jelly darling, it makes me want to cry
To see the sadness and pain that is still
Lurking in your beautiful eyes as you
Recall the days you walked the streets.

Like a little lost soul you crept along
One lady was kind but others cruel
Some threw rocks that hurt so bad
The wind scared you with its howl.

You wondered I know, why you had
no home and only the streets to roam
You wanted so much to love and be
loved. Most of all you wanted a home.

Well dear little Jelly, you have that now
With more love than you could dream
about. You're shy at the moment and
hide. This place is love with cream.
